My Story of Failure, Learning & Success
“Successful is the one who corrects his current actions and understands his past mistakes.” – Imam Ali
When I sat down to write a book about SEO, I wanted to include all the lessons I’d learned since 2003 as an industry professional. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but each instance of failure taught me an important lesson. By teaching you the lessons I learned and using the processes we’re about to cover, you’ll be able to avoid many common errors on your way to SEO success.
There is one major difference between this SEO book and others you may read online: We don’t do backlinking, and I’ll give you a brief story why.
Before we get to that story, let me just say that this advice works. We use these processes daily and many of our clients have seen a 250%+ increase in conversions and ROI in only a year’s time.
Our team combines time-tested SEO processes (sans backlinks) with conversion rate optimization (CRO) to help our clients grow their businesses.
We don’t just focus on Google rankings. Instead, this advice hones in on the user experience (UX), which Google loves. Using these steps can contribute to higher rankings for clients; and a cleaner Internet overall. Now, back to why we don’t use backlinks.
Throughout my career, I’ve learned the hard way which steps are Google-approved, and which ones aren’t.
My major loss came in 2012 with the release of Google’s Penguin update, which made backlinking obsolete. Like many SEO professionals in those days, we were using backlinking heavily for our clients. We had a database of over 10,000 “legitimate” sites that we could get links from.
Within days, we could get your site ranked on the first page of Google. We were banking and expanding.
Penguin Google update decimated my client’s rankings because backlinking became a penalization-worthy offense. All but a few of my clients were affected by the update and promptly left for other agencies.
With most of my clients gone, I nearly quit SEO. With my signature technique “backlinking” out of the picture, I seriously considered it, because I had no other major tricks up my sleeve. And yet I kept wondering what I could have done differently to prevent my lost clients from leaving. Sometimes, the solution you seek will appear out of thin air.
A year after Penguin update, I had an epiphany that led me to the system we use now, which is devoid of backlinking and contains only 100% white-hat and Google-approved SEO techniques.
My team now uses these very processes to get consistent results for our clients, which is why most remain for the long-term. We’re now going to teach you everything our team does, from client onboarding to our satisfaction guarantee.
The vast SEO landscape is changing daily. Each year, Google adds over 300 updates to its algorithm, and we stay up to date with every single one.
By the time this book is published, and you find yourself reading it, we’ve learned many new
things about Google SEO, and we’re implementing them daily.
We plan to update this book once
